At the onset of the pandemic our proposal of a Virtual Venue that blended physical and virtual worlds was forced online. We sought to use our experience with spatial sensing to enable artists to perform online through volumetric video.
We set up a stage in our studio using three Azure Kinects which allowed us to experiment with realtime budget 360 volumetric video. We then developed a series of looks and effects in Unity to demonstrate the visual possibilities of volumetric recording within the stage.
At Glowbox in June 2020, Clarinetist James Shields and Violinist Emily Cole of 45th Parallel performed an arrangement of music composed by Anders Hillborg and we streamed it live on Youtube for friends and family.
