We sought to expand the point cloud aesthetic to be more expressive and painterly as we created the visuals for Les Boréades.
We created a wide array of looks for point clouds using the Visual Effects Graph in Unity. We organized them into two broad categories: the built environment and the natural environment. For the built environment we looked to artists and architects working with ephemeral structures like Doh Ho Suh and Edoardo Tresoldi. For the natural environment we looked to impressionist painters like Georges Seurat and Henri-Edmond Cross.
We ultimately used twenty different visual effects across the span of the hour-long performance, pairing each to the photogrammetry that fit it best.
